Democracy

Kathryn Peters is a Partner on the Portfolio team, supporting the Civic Lab cohort and Build investments in democracy organizations. She works to build an inclusive, engaged democracy.
Prior to joining New Profit, she was the inaugural executive director for the University of North Carolina’s Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP), where she connected academic research to policymakers, advocates, journalists, technologists, and the public to reimagine civic and public life online. She also co-founded the nonprofit Democracy Works and served as its chief operating officer as the organization grew to serve millions of voters through programs including TurboVote and the Voting Information Project. Her earliest work in participatory governance includes campaign organizing in rural Southeastern Missouri, political rights monitoring in Afghanistan, and teaching digital security practices to activists around the globe.
