Ian Magee
Managing Partner, Chief Financial Officer
Finance
Ian has a few different roles. The first is to optimize financial operations (through improving our operating systems & processes), to ensure things run as efficiently as possible to support the organization. The second is to oversee our financial planning (resource allocation) in such a way as to maximize our impact toward our mission. Then third, to advise others in making decisions that impact the allocation our resources.
Ever since Ian first started studying economics at school, he’s been interested in economic development, as he wants to live in a world of plentiful resources and equal opportunity for all, so we can focus on exploration and discovery… Star Trek basically :). Ian moved from the UK to NYC in 2001 to work in corporate finance, and his eyes were opened to the inequities in the US, and the world generally… Ian got a green card in 2007, and shortly after moved to non-profit finance. Then in 2012 he moved into ‘strategic philanthropy’, working for the Heron Foundation in NYC. Heron was one of the founding investors in New Profit, and both orgs work towards a sustainable future with equal opportunity for all. Moving from Heron to New Profit felt like a very natural shift.
