The Confess Project of America is a national organization that fosters mental health advocacy in under-resourced and underrepresented communities. They are empowering barbers, grooming professionals, and frontline workers to be stewards of mental health.

Year Founded: 2016

The Confess Project of America is built on the foundation of a 4 Tier Model:

  • Access: Creating linkages for services while being a segue to public and private treatment providers. The Confess Project of America sees access as a multi-faceted approach which enables their team to equip educators, professionals, and community organizations with culturally relevant strategies and techniques to better serve members of under-resourced communities in everyday environments.
  • Advocacy: They utilize a specific grassroots organizing approach that is linked to direct action, it is aimed to equip everyday people with inspiration and hope to reveal their stories of resilience and traumatic experiences to be the change and voice of their local communities.
  • Research: The Confess Project of America will be a part of research that targets public health disparities and mental health studies for marginal communities.
  • Innovation: They will increase programming opportunities that will engage with digital media spaces and technology while including several online platforms that can better assist the emotional health of members of under-resourced communities.

The Confess Project of America began in 2016 because they recognized a need to equip underserved communities with mental health strategies and coping skills to help them move past their pain. In the African American community alone, suicide is the third leading cause of death. The Confess Project of America exists to help change that. Their vision is a world without stigma and shame.
