Stockton Service Corps (SSC) is a place-based initiative dedicated to working with community partners to deliver high-impact services to Stockton, and create a pathway for community leadership through service.
Year Founded: 2019
Since 2019 more than 500 individuals of all ages and backgrounds united to meet the local needs, strengthen communities, and expand opportunity through national service in Stockton. Stockton Service Corps Service Fellows are tutoring students in math and reading, preparing students for college, supporting college students in navigating higher education, leading climate change efforts, connecting system-impacted youth to services, and distributing edible foods to residents. Their Fellows served at more than 10 locations across Stockton, including schools, food banks, homeless shelters, youth centers, and other nonprofit organizations. Stockton Service Corps also partners with AmeriCorps programs in supporting a cohort of Service Fellows who are ready to improve the outcomes for our Stockton communities through quarterly programs where they get the opportunities to engage with fellows from other programs and outside their service project site.
Stockton Service Corps was established in 2019 as a place-based initiative to work with national service programs in strengthening communities and addressing local community needs. In doing so, SSC partnered with AmeriCorps programs to place 100 Service Fellows to support youth at critical milestones in their educational journey through evidence-based interventions from Pre-K to 12th grade and up until they graduate college. Since then, SSC has led this coalition effort to develop a pipeline of civic leaders who believe that young people are the key to catalyzing change in their community.
