Scope Of Work Co. (SOW) is a talent development agency for young BIPOC creatives that establishes equity in the creative industry. SOW aims to establish equity in the creative industry and to build a more inclusive creative ecosystem.
Year Founded: 2016
SOW’s ecosystem aims to build a more inclusive creative sector. They do this through three levers:
- Talent Development: A non-traditional and inclusive skill-building space for young BIPOC creatives regardless of skill level and experience.
- Talent Pipeline: A Fellowship program that innovates on the traditional internship model to connect young people to the critical early workplace experiences necessary to launch their careers.
- Talent Agency: Recruitment and placement services for young BIPOC creatives into freelance, part-time and full-time roles at creative companies. SOW currently manages and represents a roster of rising young creatives as well as more mid to senior-level BIPOC creative talent.
SOW was founded by two women artists and educators of color with over a decade-long career in the youth development and arts-education sector.
SOW’s mission directly confronts centuries of systemic oppression and white supremacy that has disproportionately impacted BIPOC communities. The creative industry is overwhelmingly white due to systemic barriers that make it difficult for young BIPOC creatives to enter creative careers. Their ecosystem model is working to create pathways into the industry in order to build a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse creative sector.
