New Leaders Council (NLC) provides local changemakers place-based training and a national network of support. Within a community leadership movement, NLC’s cross-sector leaders transform our country through social and political change rooted in equity.

Year Founded: 2005

NLC expands local changemakers’ capacity to organize collectively. We have created a nationwide community of movement leaders to cross-pollinate ideas, lessons learned, and best practices. NLC offers a consistent, inclusive “civic home” where local changemakers can refuel, sharpen their organizing skills, and find allies in their efforts for political and social change.

Their programs and community fill the gaps of knowledge and relationships between movement leaders that unlock progress previously thought impossible. NLC Fellows find a bootcamp, rest stop, and town square all in one. They practice skills in an interactive environment, alongside a community that offers belonging and partnership. This approach scales their impact – training nearly 500 Fellows every year rom chapters across the country and providing a community they can count on for years to come.

NLC believes building power among the leaders closest to their communities’ lived experiences will create the equitable country we aspire to be. For the past 18 years, NLC has trained over 13,000 proximate leaders, who now lead in every sector of our democracy, from nonprofits and private sector roles to entrepreneurial ventures, government agencies, and elected office.
