Economic Mobility
NBIC cultivates the growth and development of small business owners, with a focus on women, minorities, and veterans, through 360-degree business support, knowledgeable mentors, and a results-driven curriculum.
Year Founded: 1986
NBIC exists to address the persistent economic inequality faced by underresourced entrepreneurs, particularly women, minorities, and returning citizens who are often excluded from traditional pathways to business growth and wealth creation. The problem is not simply a lack of business knowledge, but a system that limits access to capital, mentorship, networks, and digital infrastructure. NBIC addresses root causes that hinder the economic mobility of these communities through financial and digital literacy programs, 1:1 mentorship, access to capital, and culturally responsive support. They also engage banks, corporate partners, and ecosystem builders to expand opportunity and build inclusive systems. NBIC’swork helps entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses, hire locally, and invest back into their communities—driving economic mobility, bridging digital gaps, and advancing equitable growth.
NBIC takes a comprehensive, equity-centered approach to support underresourced entrepreneurs and address the systemic barriers that limit their growth. Day-to-day, they provide culturally responsive, stage-based programming that combines direct services with systems-level relationship-building to strengthen the small business ecosystem.
Founded in 1986, NBIC has been a cornerstone of Middle Tennessee’s entrepreneurial ecosystem for 40 years. The organization has supported thousands of entrepreneurs in building sustainable businesses, with a consistent focus on founders who have faced barriers to capital, networks, and professional development. As NBIC celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2026, it continues to expand its reach through signature programs including Foundations, Groundwork, Mighty Oak, and E-Myth Mastermind.
