Muslim Youth for Positive Impact is empowering youth with the Islamic identity and principles to make a positive impact on their communities, environment, and relationships that promote responsible citizenship and stewardship.

Year Founded: 2018

Muslim Youth for Positive Impact (MYPI) is a grassroots non-profit organization that builds bridges between youth and community leaders with the goal of empowering youth to achieve individual success and realize a better tomorrow.  MYPI programming includes:

  • A thriving mentorship program that supports the academic, spiritual, personal and mental growth of mentees.
  • An expanding Mental Wellness Program, spearheaded by a youth-led campaign.
  • The Adopt-A-Family initiative that allows youth to be stewards as they support families in need.
  • The Pathways to Success program that supports career and college readiness; including a tutoring program for students of all ages; and programming classes that aim to remove the institutional barriers and bring more people of color into the STEM field.

Founder and Executive Director, Huma Babak Ebadi, was personally moved by the various issues causing a seemingly endless spiral of despair being experienced by the Muslim youth. First-person stories of youth struggling with depression, identity crisis, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, trouble at home, and more created a drive to develop outlets for the youth. The realization of the urgent need for guidance, mentorship, support, and services fueled the passion to act; the overwhelming sense of powerlessness soon became an effort to empower. Inspired by the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” MYPI’s Executive Director identified community organizations and leaders already exerting efforts to support the youth, aligned with the same purpose and passion to help springboard MYPI.
