Mission: Mentoring in Medicine & Science’s (MIMS) mission is to increase the number of underrepresented health professionals through mentoring, career exposure, and leadership development.
Year Founded: 2006
MIMS facilitates training and apprenticeship programs designed to help high school, undergraduate, and post-graduate students gain pre-employment training and experience working with professionals in the health industry. Additionally, the MIMS Mentor Program pairs post-secondary students and graduates with a health professional or health professional student for a 6-month period. This program is designed to give participants access to individual mentorship, webinars and additional resources that will provide a competitive edge as participants prepare to apply to health professional school. MIMS also offers an array of trainings that are open to anyone interested in receiving more education/certification around a number of health related topics including CPR training, basic First Aid Training, and Mental Health First Aid for Teens.
Since its inception in March 2006, MIMS programs have impacted over 3500 students and has recruited over 150 health professional volunteers in the Bay Area to partner in its mission to increase diversity in the health workforce.
