Mental Health Equity

Healing Together unlocks the power of everyday community members to provide peer-based, survivor-centered mental health support to heal trauma and disrupt cycles of harm. They envision a world where survivors of interpersonal, systemic, and generational violence have the knowledge and tools to heal themselves, their families, and their communities.
Year Founded: 2011
Healing Together is rooted in a transformational model of healing that uplifts the wisdom and leadership of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ survivors of violence to drive collective change.
Their trauma-informed, healing-centered workshops, trainings, and support circles center indigenous brilliance, cultural healing practices, and accessible, community-based mental health tools such as emotional first aid and peer support.
Healing Together also partners with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to implement Healing Justice and Transformative Justice programs, to mitigate burnout, prevent violence, address harm, and cultivate sustainable collective care.
Healing Together was founded in 2011 by Amy “Ames” Paulson, whose lived experience as a survivor of orphan trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence, and generational trauma shaped their commitment to democratizing access to culturally responsive, trauma informed mental health support. Based in Oakland, California, Healing Together (USA) also belongs to a global mental health network alongside Healing Together Uganda and Healing Together Nepal.
