Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network (FICGN)’s mission is to promote the education and empowerment of formerly incarcerated people through collective community.

Year Founded: 2014

Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network (FICGN) is an international network of 1500 formerly incarcerated college graduates across 44 states and 10 countries.

FICGN works to achieve their mission by:

  • Strengthening social networks of formerly incarcerated people
  • Creating spaces for formerly incarcerated people to share and discuss ideas
  • Changing social perceptions of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people
  • Changing incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people’s views of themselves
  • Promoting and supporting prison and post-prison education
  • Demonstrating the value of our lived experience
  • Advocating for criminal justice policy change

In the summer of 2014, a simple Facebook group marked the inception of the Formerly Incarcerated College Graduates Network (FICGN).

What began as a small online community quickly grew as individuals who shared a unique journey of transformation and education found a space to connect and support one another.
