Democracy

Equis conducts national and local polling on Latinos across the country, helping partners, leaders and experts understand Latino sentiments and best practices to keep inclusion and empowerment at the forefront when engaging Latino communities.

Year Founded: 2013

Equis Institute was created to develop a better understanding of the Latino electorate, invest in new and innovative approaches to reach and engage Latino voters, and uplift the Latino leaders of tomorrow.

Their research has demonstrated that too many Latinos do not feel powerful and influential – a sentiment that is keeping them on the sidelines of American democracy. In order to change this and radically transform the trajectory of the Latino vote, they are working to create a world where Latinos feel empowered to fully participate in American democracy through research, digital, and messaging programs. Their work informs and educates leaders on how best to turn findings on Latino sentiments into action that engages and uplifts Latinos.

Equis’ theory of change is focused on reshaping how Latinos are understood in service of a thriving and powerful Latino electorate. They seek to build a shared understanding of Latinos within the context of the dynamic transition the country is facing that directly responds to the needs and aspirations of Latino communities today. Through data-driven insights, policy influence, partnerships with community organizations, and engagement with decision-makers, Equis equips institutions with practical tools to better understand and serve Latino populations. By shifting the narrative from one of “being guests in their own home” to one of dignity, belonging, and self-determination, they aim to strengthen Latino civic inclusion and, in turn, American democracy itself.

Impact Highlights:

  • Produced widely cited research shaping national understanding of Latino political identity and civic engagement.
  • Conducted research with more than 153,000 respondents to inform institutional decision-making.
  • Briefed policymakers, funders, and media partners, influencing national narratives and policy priorities.
