Digital Promise is shaping the future of learning and advancing equitable education systems by bringing together solutions across research, practices, and technology.
Year Founded: 2011
Digital Promise is a global nonprofit working to expand opportunity for each learner. We work with educators, researchers, technology leaders, and communities to design, investigate, and scale up innovations that empower learners, especially those who’ve been historically and systematically excluded. Our efforts are multifaceted and grounded in the real-world challenges facing learners and educators—from working to expand K-12 students’ access to high-speed internet to:
- supporting rapid-cycle R&D of new educational tools and approaches grounded in research.
- making learning sciences research accessible to educators and edtech developers to support learner variability.
Digital Promise was originally launched during the Obama administration in 2011 as a national center to advance technologies that can transform teaching and learning. The organization partners with educators, students, researchers, and product developers to design, investigate, and scale technology that empowers historically and systematically excluded (HSE) learners and benefits all learners. Digital Promise does this by shifting midsets around traditional partnerships and building capacity of traditionally siloed groups to co-design solutions while centering the voices of those directly impacted by those solutions. Through its range of programs, Digital Promise has reached 4.4M+ students, 240,000+ teachers, and 300+ districts in states across the country.
