Closegap’s mission is to ensure every young person has access to emotional support from trusted adults and bite-sized mental health resources that help them reflect and grow. They partner with schools because they’re on the frontlines of the youth mental health crisis.

Year Founded: 2017

Closegap aims to transform youth mental health through K-12 schools in several ways:

  • Early and Crises Intervention—Asking the right questions early and often, creating a safe digital space where students share
  • Responsive adult relationships—Ensuring each student has at least one adult in their lives whom they can trust and confide in, either at home or at school
  • Emotion regulation skills—Facilitate the development and strengthening of core skills that enable young people to thrive

Their work is focused on helping youth build key social-emotional skills and develop healthy, secure attachment with trusted adults in the school building. They provide the space for young people to reflect and share, and for educators to listen and respond. This fosters genuine connection between students and school staff based on empathy and understanding. Importantly, they  communicate to young people every day that they deserve to be here, they matter, they are loved, and they’re not alone.
