MILPA works to improve the health and well being of the Next Seven Generations, addressing the social and cultural conditions that make economic opportunity possible through cultural healing, paid internships, and intergenerational leadership development.
Year Founded: 2013
The mission of MILPA is to improve the health and well being of the Next Seven Generations by addressing the social and cultural conditions that make economic opportunity possible, providing cultural healing while building intergenerational leadership through paid internships and social support.
MILPA is led by formerly incarcerated people and aligned minds, cultivating next-generation leadership, social infrastructure, and indigenous fellowship. Through Rites of Passage and cultural healing spaces for youth and families, MILPA prepares participants to address the trauma and harm they have experienced, to acquire the communication skills and mindset necessary to compete for jobs and careers, and to promote intergenerational wellness by re-establishing and reaffirming land stewardship. Practicing cultural healing, uplifting ancestral knowledge, spiritual practices and family dichos, MILPA cultivates Future-Makers for the Next Seven Generations while working to improve their health and well-being.
